Guilford 5th Grade Team
Game 1:
Guilford - 27  vs.  North Branford - 7

Great team effort 5th graders on your first victory (27-7) of the year against the T-birds of North Branford!!! We scored 4 times by 4 different players.

To start us off on the first play from the line of scrimmage, of the first game was Logan "Loganator" Driscoll following his blockers down the right sideline for a 50+ yard run. We allowed the T-birds to tie up the score but we never gave up. Sean "Night train" Russell caught a pass from the Loganator and with a great down field block from Matt "I need a nickname" Donlan, ran the ball in for the touchdown.

Our third touchdown, with a cut to the left, a cut to the right, and another cut to the left was Kyle "Wonderbread" Horton. Finishing off our scoring with some power running up the middle was Sam "BAM" Jankura. Sam also punched in a few extra points and made some good positive yards on a couple kick-offs.

Of course touchdowns are only possible with great up front blocking, starting with the snaps by center Nicholas "Giggles" Ferrara, with Dave "The Meat" Meade, Charlie "The Diesel" Andrus, Jack "Lambert" Gabriel, and rookies Jack "Power Surge" Surgenor and Jordan "I need a nickname" Park.

Colin Keith pounded the ball on our kick-offs and pinned the other team deep every time. The Defensive line and line backers lead by Tanner "T-Pain" Small, Nick "Snausages" George and Derek "D-Train" Ralston did a great job getting after the ball and pounded the runners with big hits.

The secondary did super as well with a few key open field tackles by Alex "Booch" Bucci, Carter "CC" Cox, Brennan "Von" Kaisen and Clay "I need a nickname" Huffman with a big interception by "Wonderbread". Lets not forget Tommy "I need a nick name" Spinner helped by keeping his teammates fueled up during timeouts.

The coaches are real proud of the effort by all players as it was truly a team effort that gave us the victory on a HOT Sunday afternoon. Great Job! Great Effort!
