Game 1:
Guilford - 7  at  Branford - 34

Hello G7!

I will be the Head Coach of the 7th Grade (G7) team this season. I have been involved with Guilford Youth Football for the past 7 years and I am looking forward to coaching your son this season!

I apologize that this email is coming late to you. I usually send one out earlier, but I’ve learned in years past that dates tend to change frequently earlier in the year. This is the most up-to-date information that I have:

Team Manager: Chris Jankura (gckjs@sbcglobal.net) - Chris is a very intricate part of our team. Please email Chris with all questions about forms, photos, volunteer schedule, game locations, game time, etc., as well as with any vacations that you currently have scheduled.

**Any questions or concerns specifically dealing with your son or coaches, please direct those concerns to me at carregal@sbcglobal.net.

Unless otherwise told, all practices will be held at Long Hill Field from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Please arrive at 7:20 p.m. for pick-up.

We may need to change them, but as of right now practice dates will be as follows. We have several families with children playing on 5th, 6th and 7th grade teams and we are trying our best to keep practices on the same nights.

July 11 - 5 pm - Equipment pick-up Long Hill Field shed. GYF supplies most of your son’s equipment. He will need a 5 pocket girdle, football cleats, and a mouth guard. GYF will not be handing out mouth guards this year. All can be picked up at Guilford Sporting Goods, Dick’s, and Sports Authority.

July 27 & 28 - 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.: Coach Unger will be helping to run two optional practices for the boys at Guilford High School. It’s a great start to the season.

July 25 – I would like to get the team together at Long Hill Field to meet the coaches and their teammates. We will be asking for volunteers to bring food and beverages. It will be a fun night for the boys!

July 30 & July 31 – practice

August 2, 3, 5, 6 – practice

August 8 – optional practice – team and family get together

August 9, 10, 12 - practice

August 14th – Guilford Youth Football Jamboree (August 15 rain date) held at Guilford High School. I try not to make too many things mandatory, but this is as close as it gets. Please let me know as soon as possible if your son will be unable to attend. This is a very important training tool for our boys and the coaches.

August 16, 17, 19, 20 – practice

August 23, 24, 26, 27 – practice

August 28 – game day walk through

August 29 – first game (time & location TBA)

Once school begins, I will be having practice on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to give the boys extra time to study during the week. This may also change due to the boys’ schedules.

It is extremely important to get your child conditioned before football season starts. If your son is not involved in a summer sport where he is conditioning 3-4 days a week, please get him outside and moving. Take him to the track at the HS, join Coach Unger’s Strength and Conditioning program, walk the Green, bike, jumping rope, whatever it takes. Also, just as important, is to get them hydrated and eating right. Drinking the day of practice is not enough. Please have them hydrating daily starting now. Eating right needs to start so that they are able to handle the conditioning on the field coupled with the heat of August.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I will be sending more information in the next few days, but this is a start. If you know any other boys that want to play, we have room to field only a couple more, so let me know as soon as possible.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone.

Thank you,
Kevin
